RELATED: Video Game Characters Who Got Way Too Cruel Endings

It’s hard for video game characters to break into the general public but it’s also hard to create a character that is memorable for players. A game like Red Dead Redemption 2 may get high scores but how many of those characters will get stuck in the heads of players decades later?

8 Sylvando

Sylvando is one of the playable party members in Dragon Quest 11. Whenever times seem dire, he is always there to brighten the mood. One of the wildest moments happens after a time skip in the game. The world is on the brink of destruction and humanity is in deep despair.

To pull everyone out of their funk, Sylvando organizes a giant parade to tour around the area. It’s a fun moment in the game that is goofy but has a lot of heart behind it too as the Luminary dances around like a fool.

7 Ichiban Kasuga

Ichiban Kasuga is the new face of the Yakuza series as of the seventh title. The old hero, Kazuma Kiryu, was a cool badass whereas Ichiban is more of a gentler soul with a heart of gold and a fun persona to boot.

He can still kick butt too but the easiest way to describe him is by likening Ichiban to Goku from the Dragon Ball series. This dude stayed in prison for decades to help out his family even though he wasn’t guilty. That takes a lot of guts and he still came out as a fun-loving guy.

6 Sora

Sora is a bit of a knucklehead on the same wavelength as Ichiban. His friends are what he values most in Kingdom Hearts. His quest begins with the desire to save his best friend Riku and his gal pal/love interest Kairi.

As the series went on his goals became more complex. Even in the darkest storylines, Sora kept his chin up. It’s weird seeing an anime-like character interact with more realistic humans from Pirates of the Caribbean but Sora somehow manages to keep a smile on hi face and make it all work.

5 Trevor Philips

There are many different interpretations of what makes a character fun for players. Trevor Philips from Grand Theft Auto 5 is more like the embodiment of chaos but that in turn is a fun characteristic for players to take control of.

Trevor does not care who he offends on his way to the top. Heck, Trevor doesn’t even care if he makes it to the top. Trevor will do what Trevor will do and that’s basically his mantra in life. Sometimes, he goes over the line but that unpredictability is also what makes him fun to be around.

4 Teddie

Teddie starts as the guide for players in Persona 4. The main character and Yosuke meet him in the TV dimension and he looks like a mascot bear from an amusement park or something. One of the biggest reveals in the game is that there was actually a boy inside.

Not just any boy, but one of the most handsome males in that universe. As debonair as he looks, Teddie keeps his bear puns and always tries to be a goofball. He can cross the line sometimes, especially with his thirst for women, but his heart is always in the right place.

3 Sans

Sans is a character that breaks the fourth wall of life. He’s from Undertale which was a meta-game itself. Sans was supposed to be a villain but his lackadaisical nature kept him from wanting to follow in his brother Papyrus’ footsteps.

The only thing Sans cares about is making an impression with his cheesy jokes. He became a fan favorite quickly, and Sans, as a metacharacter, broke out into real life unlike any indie game character before him.

2 Tiny Tina

Tiny Tina was a minor character in Borderlands 2. She made such an impression though that later DLC focused on her with a mock Dungeons and Dragons campaign. This DLC pack then went on to eventually spawn a full-on spinoff that was released in 2022 under the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands banner.

Thanks to the success of that game, Gearbox announced there will be more entries in the spinoff series besides new main entries in the Borderlands franchise. The best way to describe Tiny Tina is random like the embodiment of Internet culture.

1 Agent Francis York Morgan

Agent Francis York Morgan hails from one of the most divisive games ever made: Deadly Premonition. He’s an FBI agent that finds himself in a quiet mountain town after a girl is murdered. It’s a grim case that he does take seriously but he also allows himself to be quirky. He loves good food, coffee, movies, and his best friend Zack.

Who is Zack? That’s a big reveal at the end but rest assured players will hear all about him throughout the lengthy campaign. There is simply no other character in games quite like Agent Morgan and that’s an accomplishment even if it’s technically a bad game.
