The latest fashion trend is going digital and I’m not referring to the neat light bright costumes from TRON: Legacy. In the last week alone, news broke that Konami, Square Enix and Sony Computer Entertainment will be launching clothing lines for Metal Gear Solid, Deux Ex and Gran Turismo, respectively.
All three companies have partnered with Musterbrand for their first major complete clothing lines, with their first launch beginning with Gran Turismo 5. They claim that by next year, they’ll have deals in place with game publishers and developers that represent 20% of the market. Here’s what’s been made official thus far:
Gran Turismo 5
Already available at www.shop.us.gran-turismo.com, the Gran Turismo collection includes a variety of T-shirts and jackets (thermal, windbreaker and racing jackets) sporting the GT logo.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
The just-announced Metal Gear Solid line includes all sorts of apparel, ranging from coats, sweatshirts, pants to t-shirts and hats. The actual clothing designs are based on what the characters wear in the game. You can purchase the clothing at www.metalgearsolid-store.com (US & Canada only).
Careen Yapp, Vice President of Acquisitions and Franchise Development of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc.:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Even cyborgs of the future neat to look cool. Just take a look at Adam Jensen to see how it’s done. If you’re into cyberpunk, Musterbrand will also be releasing a line of clothing for Deux Ex: Human Revolution later this year. Stay tuned for details on the clothing lines and online shop for that.
The clothing is actually stylish and cool, and this is undoubtedly just the beginning as we start seeing tons of legitimate apparel, beyond the standard printed Tees everyone has nowadays. Here are some samples from the Gran Turismo 5 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker lines:
