“The shameless act of violence is very sick and disturbing to me and everyone who has watched the video,” Prince George’s County Police Department Chief Malik Aziz said in a statement on Thursday.

The graphic video, which was released by the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland, begins by showing several suspects attacking an elderly woman on the ground as the woman can be heard yelling, “Help me!” Police say the woman had just returned home from running errands around 6:40 p.m. local time.

The release of the video comes a few days after the incident occurred on March 29, according to police.

As the video continues, the suspects can be seen continuously attacking the woman as she is lying on the grass near a parking lot. Police said they told her to give them her keys.

“They searched her pockets and ripped her belongings from her hands. When the suspects got her keys, they began to run away,” police said in a press release.

One of the suspected attackers appears to strip a bag away from the woman, as she is attacked by another suspect.

Towards the end of the video, the elderly woman appears to stand back up and attempt to run away to a neighbor’s house for help, according to police.

“At this point, one of the fleeing suspects began to chase her and again tackled her to the ground,” police said.

Despite initially attempting to steal the woman’s keys, the suspects eventually fled the scene without stealing her vehicle.

During a press conference on Thursday, Aziz said that the victim is “in her 60’s” and that she sustained two broken bones during the incident.

In the press release, Aziz said, “Our seniors deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and not be violently accosted in our neighborhoods where we live peacefully. We need our community’s help in arresting these suspects so that they may be brought to justice and held accountable for their senseless act of violence.”

Aziz also asked for the community’s help in identifying the four suspects that were seen in the video.

The Prince George’s County Police Department declined to make any further comments on the incident when Newsweek reached out.

A somewhat similar incident occurred in March when four teenagers in New Orleans were accused of dragging an elderly woman to her death during a carjacking incident.
