The Timberwolves rookie won the contest by starting off with two perfect scores without a missed dunk. He then smashed home his final two dunks to become the first Timberwolves player to win the contest since 1994 when J.R. Rider – who was also a rookie – took home the trophy.
Let’s take a look at all four of LaVine’s dunks.
- Reverse East Bay Funk Dunk
On his first slam, LaVine brought out a Tune Squad jersey from the movie “Space Jam” to honor Michael Jordan. He then proceeded to causally throw down a lobbed East Bay Funk Dunk on the reverse.
- Behind the Back Around the World
With his second dunk, LaVine set the arena on fire with a behind-the-back slam reminiscent of Andre Iguodala’s dunk from 2006.
- Standing East Bay Funk Dunk
With help from Minnesota teammate Andrew Wiggins, LaVine grabbed a ball hovering in mid-air to complete another between-the-legs dunk.
- Off the Stanchion East Bay Funk Dunk
LaVine got help from Shabazz Muhammad to help him throw a ball off the padded arm of the backboard stanchion. As the ball came down, LaVine ran baseline and put the ball between his legs.
Congrats to LaVine on his championship.
