Trubisky, called into action as the Bears’ starter for the first time, threw his first career touchdown pass to tie the game 17-17 in the third quarter, a 20-yard pass that deflected into the hands of tight end Zach Miller. The next big play from the rookie came on the two-point conversion; Trubisky jogged in on a trick play after handing the ball to Jordan Howard, who handed to Miller, who pitched back to Trubisky.
The Bears’ defense turned in a strong performance, including recording a safety for the game’s first score. Chicago forced a Minnesota punt late in the game with the score tied, but Trubisky was picked off by Harrison Smith on the ensuing drive that set up the Vikings for the game-winning field goal, a 26-yarder from Kai Forbath.
Sam Bradford started at quarterback for the Vikings after missing three games with a knee injury, but he played poorly (5 for 15, 36 yards) and was replaced by Case Keenum just before halftime. Keenum finished 17 for 21 with 140 yards and a touchdown.
Minnesota overcame a lack of rhythm on offense to produce several big plays in the second half, including Jerick McKinnon’s 58-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter that put the Vikings up by eight.
McKinnon’s score followed a spectacular Bears TD off a fake punt. Chicago punter Pat O’Donnell passed to Benny Cunningham, who dashed up the middle to complete a 38-yard touchdown.
The Vikings are level with the Lions in the NFC North at 3-2, and both are behind the first-place Packers (4-1). The last-place Bears (1-4) sunk further with the loss.
